You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

How to Prepare for Your First Session

Congratulations on taking (or contemplating) this first step towards your healing and growth journey. Showing up is an incredible act of courage and that is all it takes to begin.

A couple additional (and optional) suggestions:

  • Bring tea, coffee or water to online sessions (I offer you these in face to face sessions). I find that mindfully sipping on something warm and soothing or cool and refreshing can be a nice way to ground yourself and set the scene for therapeutic work.

  • Know that I was a client meeting a therapist for the first (or umpteenth) time too and that there is everything right with you to want to share, express, process and seek support.

  • During creative processes, place your inner critic (you know, that nagging inner voice of not enoughness) aside - This is hard. I’ll support you in practicing this invitation and will offer self-compassion and kindness when/if it pops up during art processing).

  • Bring any physical tools that may help during your healing journey (like a journal, sketchbook, note app on your phone or nothing at all).

  • Take a few slow, deep breathes and come as you are.

ART SUPPLY LIST FOR ONLINE SESSIONS

After we meet I will send you a list of basic art supplies, a more detailed list to compile an art kit if interested and suggestions how to set up your space to create and store art.
